THE LORD KNOWS THE WAY OF THE RIGHTEOUS
Text: Book of Psalms 1:6
“For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”
Introduction
This verse closes Psalm 1 with a powerful contrast between the righteous and the ungodly. It reminds us that God carefully watches over the lives of those who follow Him. The righteous are not forgotten, abandoned, or ignored by God.
In a world full of confusion and wickedness, God promises guidance, protection, and eternal reward to those who walk in His ways.
1. The Lord Knows the Way of the Righteous
The word “knoweth” means more than awareness. It means:
God watches over,
God cares for,
God approves,
God guides,
and God protects the righteous.
Even when others misunderstand you, God knows your heart.
David understood this when he said:
“The Lord is my shepherd.”
God knows:
your struggles,
your tears,
your prayers,
your faithfulness,
and your future.
You are never hidden from God.
2. Who Are the Righteous?
The righteous are not people who are perfect; they are people who:
trust God,
obey His Word,
repent when they fail,
and desire to live holy lives.
A righteous person:
avoids sinful counsel,
delights in God’s Word,
walks in faith,
and seeks God daily.
The righteous may face battles, but God remains with them.
3. The Way of the Ungodly Shall Perish
This verse also gives a warning:
“The way of the ungodly shall perish.”
The ungodly may appear successful for a season, but a life without God leads to destruction.
Sin promises pleasure but eventually produces:
sorrow,
confusion,
emptiness,
and judgment.
Without God:
wealth cannot save,
power cannot save,
fame cannot save.
Only God can lead a person into eternal life.
4. Walk in the Right Path
God wants His children to remain on the righteous path.
How can we walk righteously?
Pray daily.
Read and obey God’s Word.
Avoid sinful influences.
Stay faithful to God.
Live by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
When we walk with God, He directs our steps.
Conclusion
Psalm 1:6 teaches us two important truths:
1. God watches over the righteous.
2. The path of the ungodly ends in destruction.
Choose the path that pleases God. Even if the journey is difficult, the righteous are never alone because God Himself knows their way.
Prayer Points
1. Lord, help me to walk in the path of righteousness.
2. Father, guide my steps every day.
3. Keep me away from evil influences and sinful ways.
4. Let my life be pleasing before You.
5. O Lord, preserve me and lead me into everlasting life.
Amen.
