WHO DO YOU SAY JESUS IS?

Text: Gospel of Matthew 16:13

“When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?”

Introduction

In this passage, Jesus asked His disciples a very important question. He did not begin by asking about miracles, money, or success. He asked about identity:

“Who do people say I am?”

Today, many people have different opinions about Jesus. Some say He was only a prophet. Some say He was a good teacher. Others say He was just a historical man. But the most important question is not what others say — it is:

“Who do YOU say Jesus is?”

Your answer determines your faith, your salvation, and your relationship with God.

1. Jesus Wants a Personal Relationship

Jesus asked the disciples directly. Faith is personal. Your parents’ faith cannot save you. Your pastor’s faith cannot save you.

You must know Jesus for yourself.

Christianity is not just religion; it is a relationship with Christ.

Application

Spend time in prayer.

Read the Word of God daily.

Seek to know Jesus deeply.

2. Public Opinion Is Not Always Truth

The disciples answered:

Some said John the Baptist

Some said Elijah

Others said Jeremiah or one of the prophets

People had many opinions, but they were all incomplete.

Even today, society has many voices about Jesus, but truth is found in God’s revelation.

Do not build your faith on popular opinion. Build it on the Word of God.

3. Peter Received Revelation

Peter answered in verse 16:

“Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Peter recognized:

Jesus is the Messiah

Jesus is the Son of God

Jesus is alive and powerful

This revelation did not come from human wisdom but from God.

When God reveals Jesus to you, your life changes forever.

4. Your Confession Matters

Peter boldly confessed his faith before others.

As believers, we must not be ashamed of Jesus Christ.

We must tell others:

Jesus saves

Jesus heals

Jesus delivers

Jesus is Lord

The world needs believers who openly trust God and stand for Christ.

5. Revelation Brings Stability

Jesus told Peter that upon this revelation He would build His church.

When your faith is rooted in the true identity of Christ:

storms cannot destroy you,

trials cannot break you,

and the enemy cannot overcome you.

A believer who truly knows Jesus stands strong.

Conclusion

Jesus is still asking the same question today:

“Who do you say that I am?”

Your answer will shape your eternity.

May we boldly declare:

“Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God!”

Prayer

“Lord Jesus, open my eyes to know You more deeply. Help me to stand boldly for You and to tell others about Your love and salvation. Strengthen my faith so that I will never be ashamed of Your name. Amen.”
