A grieving family, frustrated by alleged delays in a funeral insurance payout, brought the body of their deceased relative into the bank to provide physical “proof of death”.

According to the report available to GF ICON , the family members retrieved the body from a mortuary and placed it on the floor of the bank branch in a black body bag.

The family claimed they had submitted all required documents, but the bank allegedly insisted on further verification before releasing funds needed for burial.

The branch was immediately evacuated and closed.

Police arrested two women at the scene on charges including intimidation, extortion, and public disturbance.

Capitec Bank issued an apology, stating they are engaging with authorities and the family to resolve the matter with “care, dignity, and respect”.
