SERMON: “REMEMBERING THE SACRIFICE, LIVING THE COVENANT”
Text: Luke 22:19–20
Introduction
In Gospel of Luke 22:19–20, Jesus Christ sits with His disciples and institutes what we call Holy Communion. This moment is not just a ritual—it is a revelation of sacrifice, a call to remembrance, and an invitation into covenant.
Communion is not something we take lightly; it is something we live out daily.
1. “This Is My Body… Given for You” (v.19)
Jesus broke the bread and gave it to them.
Lesson:
The body of Christ represents sacrifice.
He was broken so we could be made whole
He gave Himself willingly
Application:
Christian life involves surrender. Just as Christ gave Himself, we are called to give our lives in service.
2. “Do This in Remembrance of Me” (v.19)
Communion is an act of remembrance.
Lesson:
We are called to never forget what Christ has done.
Remember His suffering
Remember His love
Remember His victory
Application:
When you remember Christ, you stay grounded in faith and gratitude.
3. “This Cup Is the New Covenant in My Blood” (v.20)
The cup represents a new covenant sealed by His blood.
Lesson:
This is not the old system of law—it is a new relationship based on grace.
Forgiveness is now available
Access to God is open
Salvation is secured
Application:
You are no longer bound by your past. You are living under a new covenant.
4. The Power of the Covenant
A covenant is binding and unbreakable.
Through Christ:
We are redeemed
We are restored
We are reconciled to God
Lesson:
God is committed to you through this covenant.
5. Communion Is Not Just a Ritual—It Is a Lifestyle
Taking communion should transform how we live.
Live in gratitude
Walk in holiness
Love others sacrificially
Lesson:
If we remember His sacrifice, our lives must reflect it.
Conclusion
Luke 22:19–20 teaches us three powerful truths:
1. Christ gave His body for us
2. We must remember Him continually
3. We are part of a new covenant through His blood
Final Message:
Don’t just take communion—become a living testimony of it.
Closing Prayer
“Lord Jesus, thank You for Your body and Your blood. Help me to remember Your sacrifice daily and to live a life worthy of this covenant. Let my life reflect Your love and grace, in Jesus’ name.”
