In the Beginning Was the Word
Text: John 1:1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Introduction
John 1:1 is one of the most powerful verses in the Bible. It introduces us to the greatness of Jesus Christ before creation began. This verse reveals three important truths:
1. Jesus existed from the beginning.
2. Jesus was with God.
3. Jesus is God.
John calls Jesus “the Word” because Jesus is the full expression of God to humanity.
1. “In the Beginning Was the Word”
Before the earth was created, before time began, Jesus already existed.
This means:
Jesus is eternal.
Jesus was not created.
Jesus existed before Abraham, Moses, and all creation.
Revelation
Everything in this world has a beginning except God. Jesus existed before creation because He is divine.
Application
If Jesus existed before the beginning, then He also knows your future. Your life is in the hands of the eternal God.
2. “The Word Was With God”
This shows relationship and fellowship within the Godhead.
Jesus was with the Father from eternity. There was never a time Jesus was separated from God.
This teaches us:
Jesus has divine authority.
Jesus perfectly knows the Father.
Jesus came from heaven to reveal God to humanity.
John 14:9
“He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.”
When we look at Jesus, we see the character, love, mercy, and power of God.
3. “The Word Was God”
This is a direct declaration of the deity of Jesus Christ.
Jesus is not just:
A prophet,
A teacher,
A good man,
He is God manifested in the flesh.
Why This Matters
Because Jesus is God:
His power can save completely.
His blood can cleanse sin.
His words carry eternal life.
He deserves worship and obedience.
4. Jesus Is the Living Word
The Word of God is alive and powerful.
When Jesus speaks:
Darkness disappears.
Lives are transformed.
Healing comes.
Salvation is released.
Just as God created the world through His Word, He can also rebuild broken lives through His Word today.
Conclusion
John 1:1 reminds us that Jesus Christ is eternal, divine, and powerful. He is the Word that became flesh to save humanity.
No matter what happens in life:
Trust the Word.
Believe the Word.
Live by the Word.
Follow Jesus Christ.
Because the same Word that created the world can also change your life forever.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You because You are the eternal Word of God. Help me to know You more and to trust Your Word completely. Let Your Word guide my life and transform my heart daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
