“God Rules Over Nations and Kings”
Bible Verse:
> “And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.” — Jeremiah 27:7
Introduction
This verse was spoken through the prophet Jeremiah during a time when God allowed Babylon to rise in power. God was showing His people that He is the one who raises kingdoms and removes them. No ruler, nation, or power lasts forever except the Kingdom of God.
1. God Is Sovereign Over Every Nation
Jeremiah 27:7 reminds us that God controls the affairs of nations. Babylon became powerful because God allowed it for a season. Kings may think they rule by their own strength, but ultimately God is in control.
Sometimes we wonder why evil people prosper or why certain leaders rise to power. This verse teaches us that nothing happens outside God’s authority. Even when situations look confusing, God still sits on the throne.
Key Lesson:
God appoints seasons for nations and leaders.
Earthly power is temporary.
God’s plans are higher than human understanding.
2. Every Kingdom Has an Expiry Date
The verse says Babylon would rule “until the very time of his land come.” This means there was a limit to Babylon’s authority. Though Babylon looked unstoppable, its time would eventually end.
This teaches us:
Pride has an end.
Oppression has an end.
Every earthly kingdom will pass away.
Only God’s Kingdom is eternal. People may trust in money, political systems, or human power, but all these things can change overnight.
3. God Can Use Difficult Seasons for His Purpose
Israel did not like being under Babylonian rule, yet God used that season to discipline, humble, and prepare His people. Sometimes God allows difficult situations not to destroy us, but to shape us.
You may be facing:
hardship,
delay,
opposition,
or unfair treatment.
But remember: the season has an appointed end. God remains in control.
4. Trust the Eternal King
Human rulers change. Governments change. Economies change. But God never changes. Our confidence must not be in men, but in the Lord.
Jesus Christ is the eternal King whose kingdom will never end. When earthly systems fail, His word still stands.
Conclusion
Jeremiah 27:7 teaches us that:
God rules over nations,
earthly power is temporary,
difficult seasons have an appointed end,
and God’s Kingdom is eternal.
No matter what is happening around you, trust God’s timing and authority. The same God who allowed Babylon to rise also brought Babylon down at the appointed time.
Prayer
“Lord, help me to trust Your authority over every situation in my life. Teach me not to fear earthly powers, but to put my confidence in You alone. Remind me that every season has an end and that Your Kingdom lasts forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
